Assistant Public Defender

The Office of the Ogle County Public Defender is appointed to represent clients determined by the Court to be indigent in criminal, juvenile and specified civil proceedings. As assigned by the Chief Public Defender, the Assistant Public Defender represents clients in these matters.

Job Duties:

The essential function of the Assistant Public Defender is to provide representation of clients in a variety of proceedings including, but not limited to: felony, misdemeanor, traffic, petitions to revoke, daily PFA hearings and Juvenile Court Act proceedings. Representation includes providing high level defense at all stages of the case which will include adversarial hearings and jury/bench trials.


The Assistant Public Defender may be assigned other duties as needed.



Qualifications:

The Assistant Public Defender must be licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois and be in good standing. This position requires knowledge of relevant law and procedure.

The Assistant Public Defender must possess strong courtroom skills and the ability to manage a high volume caseload.
